Tuscany through my eyes: Week 47
The fall has kept us waiting, but it is finally here!
The fall has kept us waiting, but it is finally here!
After 18 years in Pisa (at least half of time) and my entire life in Southern Tuscany, nature and art should not leave me in awe anymore. But the electric blue sky of an autumn evening made me realize you cannot really grow used to beauty.
Most people love Italy for its climate: the sunny days, the dry weather that allows people to take many day trips and enjoy the outdoors. I love the rain, the mists, the cool breeze, the grey skies. I love the weather that makes you feel comfortable indoors, curled up on your sofa with a good book and a cup of tea. A thunderstorm that leaves behind a cool, misty morning…
I am guilty of blogging laziness these days. It might be because I haven’t been out of the house much lately. I am less than 10 days away from my due date (Dec. 7), and I am essentially sitting on the sofa waiting around for this baby to show up…
Being on maternity leave, busy with an important job interview and putting together a wish list of items for our baby, and practically still wearing short sleeves on this year’s warm fall days, I almost forgot that Halloween, All Saint’s Day and the olive harvest were here! Until my grandma made Pane dei Santi…
November is one of my favourite months of the year. I love its colors, its smells, its tastes. It’s the month of chestnuts and of the olive harvest and also the month of the first holidays.
Fall is my favourite season. Spring is festive, summer is lively, winter is cosy, but the fall is magic. We don’t get the bright shades of red of the North-American foliage, but Tuscany in the fall is just as pretty.
I have just received a newsletter sent by the tourist council of Pisa and another one by the Mayor’s office and I am amazed at the amount and quality of the events organized in Pisa this fall.
October is the month when the fall starts to set in. The weather is usually still very pleasant, but some rain should be expected. However, normally, October is a great month to visit Tuscany. Don’t expect the spectacular north American foliage though! Unfortunately, we don’t get the spectacular shades of red… but we get porcini mushrooms and chestnuts!
September is usually one of the most pleasant months of the year to be in Tuscany. It is a popula month for village festivals and weddings and it is the season of the grape harvest.
This blog is written by a born and bred Tuscan who wishes to share her love for this region with as many people as possible. It's about living here, but also about travelling, learning, experiencing, and enjoying life in Tuscany.
It's about feeling at home in Tuscany.
